Autumn |
The Human Body Materials Seasonal Changes |
This Autumn, Year 1 pupils will explore the human body by learning about their skeletons and how their bodies move. They will discover different materials around them, like wood, plastic, and metal, and learn how these materials can be used in different ways because of their special properties. Pupils will also observe how the world changes with the seasons, noticing changes in the weather, plants, and animals, and how these changes affect life around them. |

Planting Animals Caring for the Planet Seasonal Changes |
This Spring, pupils will engage with the natural world by planting and caring for a variety of plants, learning about the different parts of plants and what they need to grow. They will explore the life cycles and habitats of animals, observing how animals grow and change over time. Pupils will also develop an understanding of how to care for the planet by exploring ways to protect the environment and reduce waste. Throughout the term, they will observe seasonal changes, noticing how weather, daylight, and nature transform as spring progresses, and how these changes support new life. |

Plants Planting Growing and Cooking Seasonal Changes |
This Summer, pupils will deepen their understanding of plants by exploring the functions of different plant parts such as roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. They will engage in planting and growing a variety of plants, observing the life cycle from seed to maturity, and investigating how water and nutrients move through plants. Pupils will also explore how plants are used in cooking and daily life, linking science with practical skills. Throughout the term, they will continue to observe seasonal changes, noting how the environment transforms in summer and how these changes support plant growth and animal life. |

What else are we up to?
Pupils develop creativity and practical skills in Art & Design through focused projects in drawing, sculpture, and painting, building their proficiency with materials and techniques while exploring artistic traditions. PSHE supports pupils’ emotional well-being, social skills, and personal responsibility through themes like health, safety, and relationships. PE encourages physical development, teamwork, and coordination with diverse activities including gymnastics, dance, and athletics. Computing enhances digital literacy and critical thinking via projects in data handling, programming, and multimedia creation. Design & Technology fosters hands-on learning in structures, mechanisms, textiles, and food technology, connecting practical skills with cross-curricular themes. Language learning builds foundational Spanish communication skills and cultural understanding. Music lessons develop rhythmic awareness and expressive skills, often linked to other subjects. Religious Education promotes respect and understanding through exploration of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and Sikhism.
Opportunities for cross-curricular learning are embraced throughout, enhancing pupils’ engagement and understanding across subjects.
