School Council Family
By having an Oakfield School Council, children:
- Enjoy and feel empowered by their education;
- Feel that school responds to their needs and views;
- Have the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them;
- Have a say about decisions, and to play an active role in making their school a better place;
- Develop active life skills through participation and leadership;
- Actively participate in the British value of democracy.
Our School Council family works because of:
TEAMWORK – We all work as part of a team
COMMUNICATION – Between all our families (children and children, and adults and children), good communication allows for good listening which enables everyone's voice to be heard.
DEDICATION – Every School Council member is committed to our family – to be the voice of all.
LEADERSHIP – Developing the skills of leadership, allowing anyone to make a difference within our school family.
CHILDREN’S VOICE – School Council represent the voice of all children
SUPPORT – School Council are available and open to offer support to children across the whole school.
Each class have voted for their new School Councillor for the upcoming year.

Our Eco Council
Our Eco Council is made up of one pupil from each class from Year 2 – Year 6 who are chosen by the class teacher. The aim of the Eco Council is to help the school develop as an Eco School. We meet once every half term.
Why do we have an Eco Council?
The Eco Council is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to get more involved in the way Oakfield Primary is run and help it to be environmentally friendly. The Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made.
Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is supported by adult Eco-Coordinators, but led by pupils.
The school has so far successfully applied for and been awarded 2 Eco School awards, Bronze and Silver. To achieve these the school has had to show the Eco Council is active. This has been done by holding regular meetings, completing environmental reviews, creating an action plan and using this to raise awareness and involve the whole school community in becoming more environmentally friendly Initiatives have included energy surveys - leading to monitors, poster competitions, litter picks and themed assemblies led by the Eco councillors. In 2018 raising awareness about plastic waste and the theme of reduce, reuse recycle the school built a greenhouse from waste plastic bottles that had been collected by family and friends.
