Mathematics
"Pure Mathematics is, in its own way, the poetry of logical ideas." Albert Einstein.
We are committed to providing a Mathematics Curriculum which is designed to teach the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems in order to develop pupils' mastery ability in Mathematics. Children will develop conceptual understanding through representing and applying their mathematical knowledge rapidly and accurately in a range of different representations and structures. We aim to develop mathematicians, who can follow a line of enquiry through identifying relationships and making generalisations to reason and prove a concept using mathematical language.
Our mastery approach to the delivery of Maths, which is supported by our strong pedagogical principles, allows pupils to:
develop fluency in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
develop their mathematical vocabulary, using and applying this with increasing confidence within maths lessons and across the curriculum.
be challenged. Using the five ways of reasoning: Explaining, Describing, Justifying, Proving & Convincing, children are challenged to extend their declarative knowledge.
Our Mathematics Journey
Mastering Number
Starting in the Early Years Foundation Stage and continuing into Key Stage One, the acclaimed Mastering Number project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention is given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.
In EYFS, our Mastering Number project is supported by the Master the Curriculum Programme which guides pupils through the Shape, Space and Measurement areas of the curriculum.

White Rose
As a school, we use the White Rose Maths Scheme of Learning to guide our Mathematics journey from Year 1 to Year 6, including within our Cognition and Learning bases, creating consistency across school and an important parity within year groups. Influenced, inspired and informed by the work of leading researchers and practitioners across the world, White Rose Education brings together a team of highly experienced and passionate maths teaching experts to train, guide, help and support all those who want to make change happen. With careful consideration to coherence and consistency, our learners' progression is always challenged appropriately, with expert staff taking a mastery stance within all of their lessons.

NCETM Mastery Materials
Teachers use appropriate assessments to track children and identify areas of challenge with a view of addressing these from the outset.
We have a proactive, not reactive, approach to consolidating potential areas of difficulty. Lessons are planned to remove barriers to pupil achievement.
The materials and programmes detailed above support our inclusive vision in setting high expectations, being clear on the identification of need, and working swiftly to support pupils' development.
