Welcome to the Governors section!
The role of the school governor is demanding but very rewarding and is a good way to give back to your local community. School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school's aims and policies. Some of the typical roles and responsibilties of a governor are outlined below:
Role of an Oakfield governor
To collaborate as a governing board, ensuring consistently high standards of achievement for all children and young people in the school by your commitment to:
- setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction
- holding the headteacher, and leaders, to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent
- ensure the school conforms to all statutory responsibilities
- ensure the school conforms to all statutory responsibilities
- attending half-termly Governors’ meetings.
Who can be a school governor?
You don't have to have children at the school to be a governor. However, you do have to be over 18, and pass a formal checks for your suitability.
No specific qualifications are required but there are certain expectations.
What's really important is that you have the skills, time and commitment to help drive school improvement and the passion and ambition to achieve the best possible education for children and young people.
Oakfield Governing Body
As a governor you will be allocated a specified area of focus which you will oversee during a monitoring visit and report back to the governing body. |
